First Draft Club

While scrolling through Instagram a few days ago I came across a post that said one of the worst things you can do as an amateur writer is compare your first draft to the very meticulously edited final copies of the authors you know and love.

This was lovely advice, a good reminder that not only is your style and voice likely not as practiced and well constructed as the person who has been writing professionally for many years, but they also have a lot of input and help from other very experienced people.

It is with this in mind that I’ve decided to start posting my first draft— well second draft, my first draft minus the glaring grammatical errors— of each chapter of the book I’m currently working on.  I think it might be nice for us to start sharing what these things look like originally.  It could help us cut ourselves some slack as we write.  Potentially there’s the added bonus of us maybe not caring as much about something being perfect before someone reads it.

These are two things I know I need to work on, and I think I share this struggle with a lot of people.  So as I get back into writing, my focus will be on the First Draft Club page of my website as opposed to this blog.  If you’d like to come along this journey with me and see how my chapters are going, feel free to click here and check the out. You can even subscribe to an email updates as each new chapter is written.

Time to go get risky— signing off with purpose and intention!
