9: A Witch You Wish To Be?

What maketh a witch? This is a question that has been very much on my mind this last week. If I am to be as witchy as I would like, what does that really mean? Or really, what did I mean when I said I want that?

To answer this, I’ve mostly been listening to myself, to what actions would give me that feeling. Some of them were pretty predictable.

  • Brewing a mug of loose leaf tea

  • Lighting incense

  • Tending to my plants

  • Being out in nature

Some of them, though, really surprised me.

  • Wearing a big pink bow on my head

  • Putting on pretty smelling lotions

  • Making my makeup as loud as possible

  • Turning on my humidifier

What do all of these have in common? They’re all ways that I feel more in touch with myself. Like I’m taking care of myself. This makes me feel empowered. When I feel empowered, I feel witchy. And if you watch any movie or read any book about witches that’s pretty much the gist, just typically with more bubbling cauldrons and raven’s feathers. But it was still pretty cool to realize that to feel like me is powerful. A kind of beautiful way to go about the day.

But November has begun, so what microrisk does this month have in store?

NaNoWriMo!

National November Writing Month, for anyone that doesn’t know, is a great and mighty challenge at the end of which results in the writer having a (technically) official novel. You accomplish this by writing a whopping 1,667 words a day for the entire month of November. At the end of the month you have 50,000 words which is the technical requirement for something to constitute as a novel. It certainly doesn’t mean you have a completed novel, as 50,000 words equates to 200 pages which for many isn’t quite enough space to fit an entire story.

I’ve attempted this challenge every November for about seven years now and have never followed through on it. This year, all of that changes!

By the end of November, I will have a spooooopy Gothic Romance for all of you to read. I have the outline all laid out and am ready to get started! So I am signing off with purpose and intention!
